NATO SPS Project Field Trial
A field trial of the passive method of the project “Biological method – bees – for explosives detection”, funded by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, was conducted at the Benkovac Test Site from 30th August to 3rd September 2021. The goal was to collect explosive samples from foraging honeybees on new preconcentrator materials, both at the test site where the bees fly over landmines and in clean island environments, for subsequent analysis at the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of St Andrews.
The field trial was also an excellent opportunity to discuss preparations for participation in the NATO Demonstrations and Trials to be held in Bratislava in October and to plan future activities. On 2nd September a project meeting was held, on which the Final Report and the outcomes of the project were discussed.
