FER and Vallon at Benkovac test site

From 23rd to 26th September 2019, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (FER), in collaboration with Vallon GmbH, conducted a field trial at Benkovac test site.

The trial was conducted in the framework of a research project „METASHAPE“, funded by The Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation from UK. The aim of the project is to develop and implement advanced methods of shape discrimination of buried metal objects, using commercial metal detectors, for application in humanitarian mine action. The researchers tested a system comprising a latest generation hand-held metal detector (Vallon VMF4), a system for monitoring detector head position and orientation (developed by FER), and algorithms for characterisation of buried mines and soil compensation.
