Mine action 2018 Symposium held in Slano

From 9th to 12th April, the 15th International Symposium Mine Action 2018 was held in the town of Slano near Dubrovnik. It gathered over 170 participants from 31 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. The symposium was organized by the Office for Mine Action, Croatian Mine Action Centre and HCR-CTRO, under the high patronage of the president of the Republic of Croatia. Bosnia and Herzegovina was the partner Country. The Symposium was opened by Davor Božinović, Minister of the Interior and the envoy of the President of the Croatian Government.

Esteemed scientists and mine action experts presented the topics of global mine action experiences, new technologies in mine action, mine victims assistance, the Ottawa Treaty – a world without mines by 2025, terrorism and ERW, IEDs and natural disasters and mine action.
A field demonstration was held on 11th April in the Konavle region, where methods and equipment used in mine action were demonstrated, as well as some new concepts. CROMAC presented its application of a drone in non-technical survey, HCR-CTRO presented testing of mine detection dogs. CEIA and Vallon companies demonstrated the work with their latest types of metal detectors, and the Tohoku University from japan presented the improved version of the ALIS dual sensor. The CORE company showed a shield intended for protection in case of an accidental detonation of an explosive device, which is being developed, and the Bounty company from Zagreb demonstrated the use of their minefields info mobile phone application.
